Jack Astor’s Is Coming to Windsor, and It’s Moving Into the Old Swiss Chalet on Walker Road

Posted on October 15th 2026 by Lalovich

Remember the Swiss Chalet on Walker Road? It’s about to get a whole new life.

Jack Astor’s is coming to Windsor, and it’s taking over the former Swiss Chalet building at 4450 Walker Road. It will be the chain’s first Windsor location, and it’s bringing something extra with it: Freida’s Beverage Kitchen, Jack Astor’s cocktail-focused bar concept.

Quick Facts

  • What: Jack Astor’s Bar & Grill, with Freida’s Beverage Kitchen inside
  • Where: 4450 Walker Road, Windsor, Ontario (the former Swiss Chalet)
  • First in Windsor: yes, this is Jack Astor’s first Windsor location
  • Opening date: not announced yet

What We Know So Far

The plan is to convert the old Swiss Chalet building on Walker Road into a Jack Astor’s, the casual dining chain known across Ontario for its lively atmosphere and big menu.

Here’s what’s planned for the Windsor location:

  • The full Jack Astor’s menu, including burgers, wings, chicken tenders and more
  • Daily happy hour specials
  • Trivia nights
  • Freida’s Beverage Kitchen, a cocktail bar concept inside the restaurant

No opening date has been announced yet. We’ll share it as soon as it’s confirmed.

Why This Matters for Walker Road

This is the part I find interesting as a commercial realtor in Windsor-Essex.

Empty restaurant buildings don’t always find a second life quickly. When a national brand chooses an existing building instead of building from scratch, it tells you the location still works: the visibility, the parking, the access and the traffic that brought the first tenant there in the first place.

Buildings that were designed as restaurants, often called second-generation restaurant space, are valuable for exactly that reason. A lot of the expensive infrastructure is already in place, which can save an operator time and money compared with building new. That’s a big part of why well-located restaurant buildings in Windsor-Essex tend to get snapped up when they come available.

What This Says About Windsor

Every time a brand like Jack Astor’s picks Windsor for its first location in the city, it’s a vote of confidence in the local market. Restaurant chains go where they see steady traffic and spending, and Windsor keeps showing up on those maps.

It’s also good news for the neighbourhood. An empty building on a busy road is a missed opportunity. A full restaurant brings jobs, foot traffic and a reason for people to stop on that stretch of Walker Road again.

What Happens Next

We’re still waiting on an official opening date. Once Jack Astor’s confirms when the doors open, I’ll share the update here and on our social channels.
