Modular Construction Takes a Big Step Forward in Windsor Essex
Posted on December 11th 2025 by Lalovich
Windsor Essex just saw another major move in the push toward more attainable homeownership. Habitat for Humanity Windsor Essex has launched a new modular building program in partnership with A-LINX, a division of Amico, and it is a project worth paying attention to. The announcement was made at the A-LINX manufacturing facility in Oldcastle, where the first pieces of this new approach to building are already in production.
The program will begin with a 16 home development in Amherstburg. Each home will be built inside the A-LINX factory and transported to site once the foundations are ready. This controlled environment allows for stronger quality control, faster timelines and fewer weather delays, all of which are significant advantages in a construction market that has struggled with labour shortages, rising costs and unpredictable schedules.
A-LINX is not a small scale builder. Their patented steel framed system can handle everything from ADUs to missing middle housing to multi-storey buildings up to 20 floors. They are built to the National Building Code and are one of the few modular manufacturers in Canada with the capacity to scale nationally. That matters because real solutions to the housing shortage need speed and consistency, not one-off pilot projects.
For Habitat for Humanity Windsor Essex, this is another milestone in a long line of innovation. The organization already earned national attention for delivering Canada’s first 3D-printed multi-unit building. This new modular program shows their commitment to finding practical, scalable ways to expand access to homeownership across communities of every size.
What makes this partnership interesting is how it brings local manufacturing strength and community-based development together. As Justin Amicone from Amico noted, this program is more than a single site. It is a demonstration of how Canadian manufacturing can be applied directly to the housing challenge, creating a repeatable model that can be adopted across the country.
For Windsor Essex, it represents forward momentum at a time when the need for housing solutions has never been greater. Faster builds, better quality control and the ability to deliver homes at scale are all key ingredients to solving the supply gap.
