St. Joe’s Expansion Officially Moving Forward in Windsor’s East End
Posted on October 8th 2025 by Lalovich
Big news for families and students in Windsor’s east end — St. Joseph’s Catholic High School is officially moving ahead with its long-awaited expansion.
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has awarded the construction contract to Alliance General Contracting of Windsor, clearing the way for an eight-classroom addition at the school on Clover Avenue.
The Ministry of Education approved more than $4.1 million in total funding for the project, which includes $3.6 million announced in 2024 and another $450,000 added this past June. Alliance General Contracting came in at the lowest bid, just under $2.9 million, meaning the project could actually come in under budget — something rarely seen in today’s construction environment.
When complete, the new wing will replace the seven portables currently on site and give St. Joe’s 1,350-student population much-needed permanent classroom space. The addition will be located at the northeast corner of the property near McHugh and Clover, with construction expected to start this month and completion targeted for December 2026.
If the project stays under budget, the board hopes to seek approval from the province to use any leftover funds for other capital improvements across the district — a positive sign for the broader Windsor-Essex education community.
What It Means for Windsor’s East End
Beyond the classrooms themselves, this expansion reflects continued growth and investment in Windsor’s east end. With major residential developments, new commercial builds, and infrastructure upgrades in the pipeline, local schools are feeling the same demand pressures seen in the broader housing and population trends.
Projects like this one signal confidence in the area’s long-term future and show that reinvestment isn’t just happening downtown or along Tecumseh Road — it’s spreading across the city.
